Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Arrested By ED in Excise policy case

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on the night of March 21. He was arrested in a money laundering case related to excise policy. The first arrest of a sitting Chief Minister.

The arrest, the first of a sitting Chief Minister, came hours after the Delhi High Court refused to grant protection to Mr. Kejriwal from any coercive action by the agency.

Immediately after the High Court order, an ED team reached his residence and searched. Officials said that after this he was arrested.

Officials said a six-member team of the investigating agency reached his official residence on Flagstaff Road in the national capital with a Delhi Police escort. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief had earlier skipped several summonses by the agency in the case.

The case pertains to alleged corruption and money laundering in formulating and implementing the Delhi government’s excise policy for 2021-22, which was later cancelled. AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh are in judicial custody in the case.
